I am directed by Lord Stanley to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 25 Ultimo stating that before the Lords Commee of the Treasury can decide on the amount to be contributed by this Colony towards the expense of erecting Churches at Hongkong it would be necessary to have the means of forming an estimate as to the Revenue which may be raised in that Island. I am to inform you that Lord Stanley does not contemplate any contribution for the Church at Hongkong from the Imperial Treasury, but
